Blog Response #2
Choose a character from your book. How do you envision this character? Use your words to describe how this character looks, acts, and behaves. Also, discuss the impact this character has had on the story up to this point. Would you be friends with this character, or would you avoid him/her? Why? What role does this character play in your book? If this character was not in the book, would the book change? Why or why not?? (Remember to give specific details and a complete blog entry, and don't forget to comment on two other blog entries! Happy Blogging! :)
The character I choose from my Running Loose is Louie. I envision this character as a person who stands for what he believes in and being athletic. Louie shows a lot of compassion for other people and is always willing to help someone out. Louie always stands for what he believes in you can see this in the book because he quits the football team because the coach makes a bad mistake on targeting a kid to hurt him. I think that I would be friends with Louie because he is a good guy. If Louie wasn't in this book it would be a lot different story line because he is also the main character.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me off the character in my book Chinese Handcuffs as Dillon Hemingway. He loves to help everyone out and he is somewhat athletic. If Dillon wasn't in the book it would change dramatically and that would be the same as Louie. They play the main character throughout the book and without them many events in the book wouldn't happen.
DeleteI completely agree Louie is a great kid and if he was any different the whole story would be different story. I would want to be friends with him because he is nice kid and he is the type of person you want to be around.
Deletei totally agree Louie stands for what he believes. he shows his beliefs by quitting the team and standing up for himself when he knows he is in the wrong. He knows that trying to target someone is not the right thing to do and how you should treat other players.
DeleteI believe my character shows a lot of compssoin for other people also. My main character eric is also willing to help out other people too. Eric also stands for what he beileives in.
DeleteI wrote about Louie's dad norm and you can tell that they have the same thinking process because Norm is not mad at louie for what he does and they both stand up for whats right
DeleteI am reading the book Stotan and Walker is the same way he is nice and is willing to risk himself for others. He does this when he goes and gets his brother Long John from the biker bar when he is to drunk or high to function correctly. He also does this when he goes out of his way to get Nortie's stuff from his house and is threatened at gun point while doing. He does these things even though he might get hurt or killed because he cares more for the sake of his family and friends than his own well being.
Deletei like louie the best hes my favorite character. he does the right thing even thought he is peer pressure him to do the bad thing but he wont. hes a good kid
DeleteI agree with you Louie did the right thing by not targeting the kid on the other team. Louie is a good person because he didn't and he understood what would've been the out come.
DeleteI am reading the book Chinese Handcuffs and Jennifer Lawless is a big athlete in basketball. She tries the best she can do no matter the challenges that she faces. Jennifer is taller than usual and she has blonde hair. You can tell that she hides her pain from being knocked down and everyone thinking that she sustained a concussion and also stating that her step-dad rapes her. I would want to be friends with her just so i could get her out of the situation that she is in. Jennifer has left a huge impact on not only the book but also Dillon Hemingway her best friend that she relies on. If Jennifer wasn't in this book there wouldn't be any intense situations. We wouldn't have noticed the scene where she about got a concussion and where she finally let out her pain that she was getting raped by her step-dad. Jennifer, Dillon, and Preston are the two main characters throughout the book but Preston committed suicide.
ReplyDeleteI think that our characters are kinda similar. They are similar because they are both competitive athletes. I also think that they both work hard in sports and when they have a problem they are determined to figure out a solution.
DeleteI agree with jacob. Jennifer is a really good athlete in basketball and dispite he concussion, she still wanted to play basketball which shows she doesnt like to quit
DeleteLouie and Jennifer are pretty similar people. They face many challenges that take a mental toll on them. They are both in sports and stand up for what they believe in. If something is wrong they will not stop until they find a way to solve it.
Deletei also agree that Jennifer is a good athlete and she still tries her best even though her dad had rapped her and her step-dad is rapping her.
DeleteThis reminds me of Nortie from my book "Stotan!" He tries to hide his pain like Jennifer from his challenges and physical abuse from his dad. Like Preston, Nortie's brother committed suicide. I think both of our characters are strong people who leave a great impact in both novels.
DeleteIm reading the stotan and its kind of the same as the nortie has to stand up for himself but he dont all the way and gets beat by his dad
DeleteI'm reading the book Running Loose, the main character of the story is Louie. He is a senior in high school in a small town in Utah. He plays football and finally got the starting position but when his coach wants them to purposely injure someone he quits the team. Him quitting the team shows that he has a good set of morals. I would want to be friends with this character because he is a really nice guy and always means well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Louie shows a good set of morals because he does the right thing when he knows that he could just go along with injuring him but he does the right thing. I wold also be friends with Louie if i had he chance to because he seems like a nice kid.
DeleteI agree, Louie seems like a good guy and I would want to be friends with him because he would always know the right thing to do and keep his friends in line.
Deletein my book the main character eric goes to the hospital to visit his friend sarah even though he has to go to school and swim it shoes he has good morals and cares about sarah more then anything and he wont stop till he finds out whats wrong with her
Deletei agree that Louie has a good set of morals. He knows right from wrong and he knows that when the coach trys pressuring him to target another player he wont do it because he knows its wrong. and not the way he should treat other players even if there not on your team.
DeleteLouie stands for what he believes even if he is wrong. In this case he was right though. I totally agree with everyone else when they say Louie has a good set of morals it takes a lot to stand up for what you believe in' in a small town where everyone knows everyone.
DeleteI am reading the book Stotan and Walker is the same way he is selfless and he is willing to risk himself for others. He goes and gets Nortie's stuff from his house regardless of his fear of Nortie's father and almost gets shot in the process. He is willing to take these risks for his friends and family even though he might get hurt or killed because he cares more for the sake of his family and friends than his own well being.
DeleteI am reading the book Stotan, and my character Lion sounds the same to your character. Your character plays football and mine is on the swim team, and they both have there own set of challenges in there sport.
Deletei agree that louie i would do the same thing if my couch ask me to do that. he made the right decision to quite the team.
Deletei agree with this Riley wise guy he is seeing the big picture of the book and i thing that is the lesson to be learned through out the whole is that you have to realize between right and wrong
Deletei am reading the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes the main character Eric used to be a big kid and was over weight and now he slimmed down because he joined the swim team and he is trying to find out whats wrong with his friend sarah. The book so far is eric trying to find out what happened to his friend sarah and he seems like a good friend and a great guy if he was not a character in this book it would change drastically.
ReplyDeleteThe character Eric in your book reminds me of Dillon Hemingway in Chinese Handcuffs. He always tries to find what is wrong with everyone else and doesn't worry about himself as much. I think both of these characters would be great friends to hang around with. They are also both the main characters in the story.
DeleteI agree with jacob because eric and dillon are very similar by how they act. they put their friends before them and dont care about themselves as much as their friends and they try not to worry about whats wrong with themselves.
DeleteI am also reading the same book. I also would be a friend with eric because he seems like a great friend. He is great friend to Sarah and dale. I also agree with you that the book would change a lot if he wasnt in there.
DeleteYour character Eric sounds like Nortie from my book Stotan. He does not worry about himself. He worries about other people before himself.
DeleteI agree with you on how you described him especially on wanting to know about Sarah because hes always thinking and trying to help her.
DeleteBecky, Louies girlfriend is a really sweet girl. She is a cheerleader and supports everything Louie does. Becky is more of a minor character but she makes a big impact on Louie. Louie thinks she is too good for him and she could get any guy she wanted. Becky was very respectful of Louies decisions and opinions. She was a really sweet girl, I would probably be friends with her. If she wasn't in the book, i don't think the book would change too much, Louie just wouldn't have a girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a interesting book to read with a character like Becky because she seems like she would add some excitement in a book!!!
Deletebecky is good to him i agree she is very supportive with his decison in quiting she cheered him up to it was good of her.
DeleteBecky reminds me of Jodi from the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. Jodi is very sweet but doesn't know how to get herself out of bad situations. She is Brittain's girlfriend and he made her do some things she regrets but still stayed with him because she had no one else to turn to. It wasn't until they discussed a topic in class that affected Jodi that she went to Eric for help. I feel like she isn't a very important character but she is a driving force for Eric to keep trying to help and show people the kind of person Brittain and other bad people really are.
DeleteIm reading the book Running Loose and i can imagine boomer being a big fat strong kid. Real cocky and not fun to be around. i think what ever happened to him that night by the water he deserved he is to destructive and not nice. hes a crappy person and i dont like him.
ReplyDeleteI agree Boomer is rude but i think he just had a bad childhood and grew up in a bad environment that causes him to act the way he does.
DeleteThe character Nortie from "Stotan!" plays a very essential role in the book. I envision him as a tall, dark haired, 18 year old, with sad eyes. I imagine he would often have bruises from the constant abuse his dad carries out on him. Because he has such a love for children, I imagine him having a really sweet and kind personality. I also imagine him as being sad when he is not around his friends. He lost his brother to suicide and does not have any strong base besides his friends. His character has developed a lot throughout the book so far. He has brought many interesting events into the book like his abuse at home, the terrible winter dance, and having to quit his job at the daycare. If Nortie went to WD, I would definitely want to be friends with him for his lovable personality. Without Nortie in "Stotan!", the book with be very dry and blah. He brings an aspect of fun to the book there otherwise would not be.
ReplyDeletei agree with you that nortie has an essential role in this book with all the abuse and his unforgettable stotan story and his messed up dad and all we see is him slowly suffering
DeleteI like your description of what you think Nortie looks like. I can envision every detail that you said. I also would be friends with him as well. I feel like he would make a great and honest friend that would always be there for me because of the way he treats everyone and what he has gone through in life so far.
DeleteI would agree that Nortie does play a huge part in the book, he keeps the story interesting. I could also imagine the description you gave of Nortie, you nailed it spot on. I also feel like he does have a lovable personalty and that he would make good loyal friend with his caring nature. One thing that I like about him is that he's truthful, I was shocked when he went to told Max that he took some type of drug and was ready to face the consequences.
DeleteIn Chinese Handcuffs, by Chris Crutcher. Dillon Hemingway is the main character in "Chinese Handcuffs" however, many more characters are added to this story to make it a more interesting to read. Jennifer Lawless, Dillon's best friend, just adds to the excitement. She was described as "Tall, blond, sinewy, and an intense athlete". Together, Dillon and Jennifer face many problems together but always over come the problems. Preston, Dillon's brother is also a character in this story but only in vivid flashbacks. Preston only has flash backs because he killed himself in the beginning of the book and through out the book they talk about times they've had with him and they=n you are also able to learn more about the characters.
ReplyDeletedo you think the story would be different if dillons brother didn't die
DeleteIn the book Running Loose, the character i choose the character Louie. I imagine Louie as being a tall athletic guy with black hair, and is muscular. Louie has a strong passion for the game. He stands up for himself and is willing to help anyone out. after quitting the team he shows a strong compassion for quitting because the coach was trying to make him do things that he knew wasn't right. He shows a strong passion for the sport and for his team. If Louie wasn't in the book the story wouldn't be the same.
ReplyDeleteI agree with u on being tall and muscular because of running and working out every day. he really stands up for him self and stands out. he don't care what other people think to. I think with him getting kicked of the team with story will get more interesting.
Deletethe book running loose the character I picked was Louie. I image Louis about 6 foot tall about 120 pounds. he's a little build from working out all the time. Louie stands up for himself when he don't think something is right. he will tell a person what he thinks. the impact on this character of the story when he got in yelling match at the football game. He yelled what he thought and it didn't help. it changed the story around by going good to bad. yes I wood be friends with friends with him. because I wood like a friend that tells the truth and don't care about the other people that makes fun out of him. louis is the main character played in the book. if this character wasn't in this book yes the book wood change because he's a main character.
ReplyDeletefrom the book chinese handcuffs, i chose Dillon Hemingway. i envision him as a big strong athlete who always run triathlons to make himself better. Dillon is a pretty cool person and hes tries to show it but everybody knows that he is depressed. his brother preston committed suicide from drug abuse. he also told the the that he likes how he felt about her but she doesnt feel the same way. he tried to get advice from his coach but she didnt have much advice to give him. i would be friends with him because he seems cool and people that go through as much as he does need a friend. Dillon is the main character of the book and it would be a lot different if he wasnt in the book because he is the center of everything in the book.
ReplyDeleteDillon Hemingway is my favorite because he has been through much and always stays on his feet and doesn't let anything get in his way.
Deletei also envision Dillon being strong and that he tries to create attention like when he wore a inappropriate shirt and when he was arguing with the principle in the lunch room. i also agree that he is the center of the book.
DeleteI am reading staying fat for sarah byrnes. I am blogging about the character sarah byrnes. Her looks are pretty strange because her whole face was burned. So she has burns on her face. I dont think i would be friends with her because she doesnt seem friendly. She is one of the main characters. If this character was not in the book it would be totally different because its all about her.
ReplyDeleteim also reading this book i think the plot of eric trying to find out why sarah is in the hospital very interesting and with out these two characters the book wouldn't make any sense i think eric and sarah have a great friend ship and it should be interesting to see what is going to happen later down the road for these two characters
Deletei agree with you on how she looks strange because of her burns but i also feel like she acts strange to.
DeleteI am reading the book Stotan and the character Lion is a very interesting person. I envision Lion of a person that makes everyone happy and just lights up the room when he walks in the room. He is probably the nicest one of the group. Lion is happy, energetic, scared, never lets himself get down. Like I said before he behaves like a normal person but just with all the excitement. He has had quite the impact on the story. Lion is the character that has had his parents die in a boat crash and he lives on his own in an apartment. All of his friends now so they help him out with things, and they are trying to help him out with his daily needs. I don't think that I would be friends with this character because he is big into sports like swimming and I’m not the biggest fan of swimming so we probably wouldn't get along. Lion plays a big role in the book. I think if he wasn't here the book wouldn't be as good. Cause he's the one that keeps pushing even though he had one of the worst life out of the group. So, if Lion was not in the book, the book would have a totally different setting.
ReplyDeletein book running loose louie and lion are kinda similar. they both make people laugh and there realy nice people and do anything for you. the behaviors are the same to they act narmal.
DeleteI also think Lion had a big part in the book i think he pushed the boys to work harder and be thankful for what they have. I also think Lion is a little goofy especially when he jumped backwards off the diving board yelling Stotan or when he showed up to the winter ball all dressed up with a fake machine gun on his jeep.
Deletein Chinese handcuffs i imagine Dillon Hemingway a bit short with lots of strength, with black hair. i think Dillon is depressed because of his brothers death from being on drugs and shooting himself. Dillon tries to stick out from wearing a inappropriate shirt to arguing with his principal in the lunch room. I would be friends with Dillon because he seems like he needs more friends and he seems fun to be around. this book wouldn't be the same because everything evolves around him.
ReplyDeleteI choose the main character Louie because he had to go over come so many things such as quitting football and loosing his girlfriend and basically his best friend. Louie is a super great person and understands right from wrong because he is a genuine person. Also Louie very determined in sports and he did the right thing by not targeting him.
ReplyDeleteThe character I'm writing about is Nortie from "Stotan!" plays a very essential role in the book. I imagine he would often have bruises from the abuse from his father. I also imagine him as being sad when he is not around his friends. He lost his brother to suicide and does not have any strong base besides his friends. His character has developed a lot throughout the book so far. He has brought many interesting events into the book like his abuse at home, the terrible winter dance, and having to quit his job at the daycare because he assulted a kid. Nortie seems to be by far the most interesting character in the book.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I don't think the book would be half as good without Nortie. I think the winter dance played a big role in the book because it took Nortie out of his house and it also taught the boys to stand up for themselves and take care of each other.
DeleteThis character also reminds me of Dillon because his brother Preston also committed suicide. Dillon also developed a lot throughout the book because him and Jennifer are getting more comfortable to each other.
DeleteThis character reminds me of Dillon also because Dillon's brother Preston killed himself.
DeleteI think Nortie is very important in this book as well. The events that have happened so far are sad, but shows that he is a very strong person, due to what he has dealt with. Between the abuse and daycare incident, he has gone through so much, but it makes him who he is. Without him the story would be completely different.
Deletei feel like he is kind of like dillon because his brother killed himself because of the drugs and and after that dillon turned very depressed
Deletethis character reminds me of dillon except for the child beating part. dillon also lost his brother to suicide and has brought many interesting events to the book like killing a cat.
DeleteI agree with what cody says . He is the most interesting character in the book. He adds a lot of extra background info to the book.
DeleteI see Nortie from the book Stotan! as a character that is very shy and timid. He is afraid to do anything, but I feel like if you were to make him mad, he could really do some damage. He is a very kind person, but at the same time, his past has influenced him to be a little more on the violent side. I believe that his father abusing him is what caused him to hit that kid across the face. He keeps the plot interesting, and interacts with all the characters well. I personally would be friends with him. He would be a great and honest friend that I could get along well with. I feel like he has had a decent size role in this story, that if he were to not be in it, the story would change quite a bit. There would not be the interesting aspect of him hitting the kid, getting abused, or many other stories about him. Nortie is an important character in the book Stotan! and I'm looking forward to read more about him.
ReplyDeleteI also chose Nortie and agree he is a kind person despite his circumstances. I disagree with your point he hit the kid because of his dad. Nortie doesn't want to be like his dad and just because he lashed out, doesn't conclude he is doing it because he was once the victim.
DeleteI agree that Nortie does keep the plot interesting. Even though Norite does seem shy and timid I do think he is a strong character for being able to handle the abuse for so long. My guess of why Nortie hit the kid is because he did had a lot of things bottled in and I guess he exploded in the wrong time and wrong way. You can tell that Nortie has a hard time of expressing his feelings because he never wants to talk about the abuse with his friends and he also never told them he had a brother until around stotan week.
Deletei am reading running loose and i really like the book so far. i like this book because its kids our age and playing football. louie loves playing football and trys so hard to get his spot on the team and he did but after that the couch said to hurt someone on the other team. so he quite the team and then boomer said he would do it because hes a big angry guy.
ReplyDeleteI didnt really like my book right when i started, my book stotan it was slow right away and wasn't very fun to read but now that im into the book a little ways its getting better and i kind of like reading it.
DeleteI do not think there is any similarities between these 2 books. I do not think i would enjoy this book.
DeleteThe character that I was to write about from the book running loose is Norm. I imagine Norm a short stocky man with a big bushy beard. He can dress up nice but most of the time he has oil spots on his cloths and skin. His hair is black and he has thick glasses. He kind of reminds me of one of my friends dads in some sort of way because of the way he thinks he is a smart man as Louie says.
ReplyDeleteThis character kind of reminds me of Dillon, a character in Chinese handcuffs. Dillon has almost all the same characteristics other than the bushy beard, thick glasses, and the dirty clothes.
DeleteI chose Nortie from Stotan because i think his character plays a big roll. I see Nortie as being a tall skinny guy with bruises and scars on his face because his dad beats him. Nortie is kinda shy and doesn't stand up for himself, hes been emotionally and physically abused for his whole life. I think Nortie plays a big role in this book because of his "stotan" story. One night the boys were sharing stories and Nortie shared the story of his brother committing suicide because he couldn't handle the beatings anymore. This pushed all the boys to do their best in a way to honor Nortie and his brother.
ReplyDeletenortie sounds like sarah, her dad abused her and her mother. Do you think that the story would change if his dad got caught and got put away would it make him happy or say?
DeleteIM also reading stotan and can see Nortie looking like that do you think Nortie will ever stand up to his dad
DeleteThe book I'm reading is Running loose and the main character is Louie Banks. In my eyes Louie is a tall and lengthy kid. He has long brown hair and is a very shy kid. He has his ideals in life and he isn't afraid to share them and fight for him. He also has very little control on his feelings as shown in the book multiple time. He is also very sweet and innocent though. He's never been with a girl and hes not one to get into fights. He usually works his tail off to prove his worth and h underestimates himself. I am enjoying the book now that i finished it yet there were many parts that confused me in the way he rights it. I can see him as a Kale Cartee of the school because of his height and hair and attitude towards everything.
ReplyDeleteI also think that Louie sticks to his beliefs and doesn't care what anybody has to say about them.
DeleteI agree that louie is not one to get into fights because when boomer was picking on him he would always back down and then carter would have to break up the fight. I also agree that he has very little control on his emotions because he went and destroyed the plaque and when they put a new one in he went to destroy that one to.
Deletei agree with Louie and how he is sticking to his guns also most credit to becky for supporting him like she is
DeleteI am envisioning who Louie is. To me, I think Louie is the kind of person to stand for what he believes in. I think Louie is the kind of person that will always do the thing that is right. He respects you as long as you respect him. At the same time I feel like Louie would tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. I would be friends with Louie. Louie is a lot like me. I think Louie and me could even possibly be best friends. We have so much in common so I think we would both understand each other very well. If Louie was not in the book, the story would have gone in a completely different direction. Louie is what makes this story worth reading.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about louie standing up for what he believes in because when he was called into mr. jaspers office about the football game he told the truth about it but mr. jasper did not believe it.
DeleteWith all his public outburst and ideals i don't see him as much as you yet i also agree that you that you can be friends because the only people he wouldn't really be friends with is people like Boomer. He'd probably be best friends with Calvin Harris though if you think about how similar Cal is to Carter! Its unreal. what do you think Louie looked like though? Like i said in my post i see him like a tall and lengthy kid but id love to hear your thoughts!
DeleteI think Louie would have long black hair, skinny but muscular, and brown eyes.
Deletei agree with you there if Louie was not in this book i don't think i would be able to stick with it. it is hard for me to find a book that i can actually sit down and read for a while but this book is one of those it keeps me interested it has drama, action and the action is what keeps me on the edge of my set wanting to read more and i think Louie is a big contribute to the action that is in this book.
DeleteI agree with most of what you said except for the part about Louie telling you what you should hear and not what you want to hear. I do not see Louie say what you need to hear because he does not know what he wants to say most of the time. Carter on the other hand i can see him telling people what they should hear, because he has his head strait, and Louie does not.
DeleteThe character that i choose from running loose is coach Lednecky. I think that lednecky is the type of person to do anything to win like when he told the team to target washington. Also when he did not want to let louie play sports again he did not want to let louie in because to him he would have lost. He also seems like he doesnt really feel sorry for people like what happened to becky he did not care and he still wanted louie to not play any sports. Without lednecky in the book it would be alot different because there would be no antagonist or atleast one like lednecky. the only other antagonist in the book would be mr. jasper but he would not be as good an antagonist as lednecky is.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely about this! Coach Lednecky would be a terrible coach with how he teaches the game and punishes kids for playing it right! Tt was outright absurd and i was very upset about him while i read the book.
Deletei also found my self mad with Lednecky because that is not how the game of football should be played. that was really low of him to target a kid just because he is black and has great skill, not cool man.
DeleteI agree that the story would have changed. I think the story would have changed because Louie would not have quite football because the hit on Washington would have never been called. The whole plot line would have changed completely.
Deletei'm reading running loose, I choose Louie because i envision him to be strong kind, respectful, and overall a decent person. Louie loves plying football, he is nice to his girlfriend and everyone else he comes in contact with. Louie plays a big role in this story because he is the person talking in the story and he is the one that the story is centered around, he is the talk of the town as to say. I would be friends with Louie because i think what he did was a good idea and i agree with what he did because the couch is really mean and wants to play dirty so i think me and Louie would get along OK. Louie is he main character in this book, if he was not in this book the book would change a lot it would be a whole lot different with him not in it.
ReplyDeleteHow do you tink the book would change is Louie wasnt the person he was and just went with the flow instead of doing what he belives in
DeleteLouie and Lion sound quite the same from them 2 paying sports to them both being big parts in there book. I also agree if they where not in the book it would not be as good as it is.
DeleteI am reading the book Stotan. I chose the character Walker Dupree to write about. I chose Walker because his relationship with Devnee and his crush on Elaine is a very common trope that I always find interesting. I have seen this trope in many movies all the way from Grease to Spider Man: Homecoming and other books. It is predictable and yet it is one that always seems to drag me in to the live's of the characters. I will have to finish the book to end up seeing who Walker ends up going out with.
ReplyDeletei feel the same way on how it drags you in time after time one date after another and i to am just waiting to get to the end to find out what his final choice is .
Delete"i'm personally rooting for Devnee"
is walker a nice kid? i am interested to hear more
Deletethe character i have chosen Nortie from my book "stotan!" i can see him as what i see in the mirror with dark hair 18 that tries not to stand out in a crowed but i all so can see a kid how has had a life of beating and has the buses to prov it. i feel he might be the kid to explode in to a rage of anger if messed with to much and at the same time be the best person in the room. His role in the book is importer as the incident at his house is a major event. if give the chance to be his friend id have to say yes i can never avoid someone so troubled.
ReplyDeletethe character i am dong mine on is Louie the main character i the book running loose. i chose him cause he is an overall cool guy. to describe him hes a super nice kid who is very hard working spent the summer in the gym to in sure a starting position and also was good but never bragged and he had very good character h quite the football team even tho he worked so hard because they wanted to cheat and that takes guts. i would definitely be his friend seeing how he treated carter he would be fun to hangout with. the role he plays is huge, he is the main character and the whole book is on his struggles since he quite football he deals with all the flack from that and builds character. if he wasn't in the book we would not have any book to read cause we wouldn't have the decision we did.
ReplyDeleteI disagree because if Louie wasn't in the book we would take about Becky and the story would end with the bridge accedent. I think that Becky would date Carter instead of Louie and they would be together forever. What are you thoughts on this?
DeleteI am reading Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. The character I chose to describe is Sarah's father Virgil. He is described as being a bigger guy that scares everyone away. When Eric sees him in the hospital when he goes and visits Sarah, Mr. Byrnes comes after Eric telling him if he finds out that hes hiding something about Sarah that he will get hurt and Sarah's dad won't hesitate to come after him. Then before being escorted out, Sarah's dad goes over to her and says "young lady, you get it together, of there will be hell to pay". He is an important character only because he is the reason Sarah is how she is. I would not want to be friends with him and i would try my best to stay away from him.
ReplyDeletei am reading the same book and i do believe that he is a major character he plays a big role that makes the whole book and makes sarah who she is. hes abusive man that should go to jail and get what he deserves.
DeleteI am reading the book Chinese handcuffs and i choose Preston. I envision Him as a tough and hard up person when he is on drugs. When hes not on drugs i feel like hes a understanding and caring guy. He is also a Harley rider and many Harley riders In my opinion are are bigger and more cocky. A huge impact Preston has left on the story so far is all the action between Dillon and the Harley rider group. If Preston wouldn't of killed himself because of what the group did, Dillon wouldn't of spread the ashes in the bar and made the bikers go on a hunt for him. I would probably avoid him because i wouldn't want to be forced to try drugs. Preston doesn't really have a role in the book because he is dead but he has a big impact on Dillon and Stacy. If Preston wasn't in the book, the story would be completely different because all of Dillon's actions are based off of what Preston did in his past. Dillon wants revenge from the biker gang and it also had an impact on their family.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Preston doesn't have much of a roll in this book because he is dead.
Deletedo you think the book would be any different if preston was actually in the book as if he didnt kill himself
DeletePreston does have a pretty good role even though he is dead because Dillon gets his motive from what happened to Preston
DeleteI am reading the book Running Loose the character I choose is Jasper. I picture Mr. Jasper as an old guy who always looks like he is mad. Jasper is the superintended of the school Louie goes to. Jasper is the person that gets mad that things are not going his way. He suspended Louie for saying that Lednecky teaches dirty football. He also almost got suspended for breaking a plaque even though Jasper had no proof of him doing it. Jasper so far has just been a road block in the story. Louie want to join track but Jasper says he cannot because he made a deal. I personally would not want to be friends with Jasper because he seems like an up tight jerk. He abuses his power as a superintendent and takes sides with racist people. I believe if Jasper was not in the book, the book would change completely. Louie would not have destroyed the plaque, he would not be begging for a spot on the track team, and he would not have been suspended for calling out Lednecky. Jasper is the protector of Lednecky.
ReplyDeletei am reading Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes and the character i chose is Sarah. She is a high school student that got serious burns on her face and hands. She is a very outspoken girl thats not to say whats on her mind only when her dad is around. By the way her father beats her and treats her she figured out to protect her self from her father by placing herself in a nuthouse. The only one she can really trust is her best friend Eric or also known as Moby. She would be considered as an outcast in the real society. The only thing she can count on is crispy Pork Rinds and the little relationship she has left with Eric. she reminds me of any women in this world that looks different that the "normal" girl. she has drama, life struggles and just hard to fit in. i believe that sarah will find justice from her father and will rise up from all the bad things that has happened.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Sarah is a bad B and i think the only way she got that way is because her dad kept on abusing her. She also hides behind her scars and uses them almost like a shield to cover her real emotions. That is her excuse for everything and ever pushes herself away from people because of them. When Eric finally told her that he liked a girl, she hid behind the scars until he left and it was then that she cried feeling that Eric would leave her because he found someone that was pretty.
DeleteI am reading the book staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. The character i want to talk about is Sarah Byrnes she is a young women in her teens who has scars on her face from when she is three years old. Sarah Byrnes is placed in the psych ward at the local hospital which hopes she will eventually come out of her "psycho" state. Sarah's father knows she is faking it but has no way to prove it. Sarah Byrnes finally spills the truth about why she is faking. She said it was to escape her fathers clutches long enough to figure out a way to "survive." Many people try to help Sarah help her be more human in a way. She had enemy's and friends all she needed to do was find a way to be happy.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Chinese Hand Cuffs the character I chose is Preston. He is a high school graduate that is in a wheel chair, in a motorcycle gang, and he is a major drug addict. He has had a big impact on the story because his brother is the person telling the story. Then one day Dillon, Preston's brother were shooting cans and Preston kept putting the gun up to him head and pretending to pull the trigger, then Dillon went diving for the gun and Preston shot himself in the head. If this character wasn't in the book then Dillon wouldn't have a brother and he wouldn't be so sad that he killed himself.
ReplyDeletein my book Stotan the character Norties brother also killed himself.
DeleteIn the book "Stotan!" I really admire the character Lion. I admire him because even though his parents died and he had no other family to live with, he is still an upbeat person. He never let's his parents death stop him from enjoying life, he even found a place to live at by himself with no help, and he's always making his friends laugh with whatever goofy thing he does and says. I can imagine Lion being an adventurous extrovert with blonde hair, and blue eyes that shine with mischief, and a happy smile on his face that can bright anyone's day. I honestly would like to be friends with Lion because of his bright personality. I feel like his character has helped the group stay positive during stotan week and made it funny by doing crazy things. If his character weren't in the book, I do think the book would change a little bit because of all the sad things mention about Nortie and Lion is the one that makes it a little bit more happier.
ReplyDeleteThe Character I chose from the book Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes is Sarah. I choose her because I feel like she stands out the most. i envision her as a good caring friend that always stands up for them. Sarah also always has stuck up for Eric and he kind of depends on her to have his back when hes is in a situation. She seems like she would be a good friend but I wouldn't be her friend because she seems like to much and i just wouldn't want that in my life. i think she plays the main role i think this because it mostly is about her and Eric. I feel the book wouldn't be a book if she wasn't in it.
ReplyDeleteI am reading chinese handcuffs and the book is making alot more sense now that im farther into the book the character i chose is dillon is sad because his brother shot himself because of drugs and he trys to show off by wearing a inappropriate shirt to school and yelling and arguing with his principle i feel as if dillon wasnt in the book it would be way different since everything revolves around him
ReplyDeleteI agree because the book talks about Dillon the most and would be completely different without him.
DeleteIn Stotan Walker is the narrator and a big character in the book. Walker is kinda like your average person but has some difficulties with his family. When walker was born he was a accident and his parents are older then most peoples grandparents. He feels like e cant really connect to his parents because of the huge difference. His brother is in his 30's and is a hippie and only seems to want anything to do with Walker when he needs help. Without walker we wouldn't have as good as and understanding of all the characters and how everything is played out. I probably wouldmt be friends with walker because im not really friends with sports kids.
ReplyDeleteI pick Carter. He is a tall buffed kid that looks like Will Burds. But without the freckles and short hair. Instead he has hair like Calvin Harris and his hair is black. He is fast and has a power arm. I picked Carter because he is supportive and a leader. He would be a great friend and make a big impact to the book if he was not in the book. Carter is sort of humble and motivated to succeed. But doesn't show his arrogance in the book. Do you agree?
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Chinese Handcuffs. The character I chose is Dillon Hemingway. I envision this person as a strong athlete that supports others, but is sensitive about his brother Dillon's death. This character has a big impact on the book because he is pretty much the main character. The story is mostly told by him and he always talks about his brother's death. If Dillon wasn't in the story, things would be completely different because his story line would be gone and someone else would have to tell the whole story. I would talk to him in school but I probably would not be very close friends with him because he likes to get himself into trouble a lot.
ReplyDeleteI am reading chinese handcuffs and i chose dillon. he is a high school student thats bigger in size and very athletic. hes i nice kid thats not cocky about the fact that hes a very good athlete. hes bold and not scared to tell people about what he thinks. i dont think i would be friends with him n real life because we dont have anything in common hes more of a sporty kin and im not. he plays a major roll in the book because the book mainly talks about his relationship with preston and jen. the books would be very different if he wasn't in the book because then it would just focus on jen.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Chinese Handcuffs and Jennifer Lawless is big into basketball. She tries the best she can no matter what she faces. Jennifer is tall and has blonde hair. You can tell that she hides her pain from being knocked down and everyone thinking that she got a concussion and also saying that her step-dad rapes her. Jennifer has left a huge impact on not only the book but also Dillon Hemingway, her best friend. If Jennifer wasn't in this book there wouldn't be any intense situations. We wouldn't have noticed the scene where she about got a concussion and where she finally let out her pain that she was getting raped by her step-dad.
ReplyDeletei am reading the book stotan and i really feel bad for nortie because he never gets to see his dad and when he does his dad is always pissed at his family for some thing and he takes it out on them in a very bad way like beating them so he has to stand up for him self witch hes always scared to do so.
ReplyDeleteI also feel really bad for Nortie because he just has an unusual lifestyle and he gets abused by his dad, which he doesnt deserve. I wish Nortie would stand up for himself more as well.
DeleteIm reading the book Stotan! My character is Nortie. I chose Nortie because he plays and important role in Stotan! I would think he looks like an average size white kid. Now he would probably have a lot of stuff that we couldn't see. His father abuses him and im sure he has bruises from his dad. He acts like more of the leader of the group. I do not know that much about nortie but from what i do know i would be friends with him. The role he plays in this book is he is a swimmer. If Nortie wasn't in the book i think the book would be a lot different. He enhances the story with his background.
ReplyDeleteI agree with mason about being friends with him if he went to this school because he seems like a really nice kid. I also agree with him that the book would be a lot different without Nortie, and there just wouldnt be much of a story line.
DeleteNortie from Stotan plays a pretty big role in the book. I picture him as a teenager around 18 years old, with droopy dark eyes. I picture him with bruises all over from constantly being abused by his dad. I feel like he is a really nice kid and really kind hearted because he works at a daycare with kids. I also imagine him as being depressed because he lost his brother who comitted suicide and he doesnt have much other than his friends. I think Nortie has developed a lot throughout the book and without him, the book would be very boring.
