The endings of Chinese Handcuffs, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, Running Loose, and Stotan! leave the reader with some unanswered questions. Chris Crutcher assumes the reader knows the ending, but he doesn't come out and say it. You take control and write the overview of one more chapter to these books. If there was one last chapter, what would it be about. How would you tie up loose ends, if you were the author?
I read the book Running Loose and there is a lot of loose ends in the final chapter. If i could write another chapter i would. This chapter would go more in depth of Louie's Track season and how he did in state because in the final chapter he runs a qualifying time to make state. I would also go more in depth with his relationship with Jasper. I would also like to see his reactions on how Louie keeps taking out the memorial for Becky. The last thing i would like to see is in the future how Louie turned out if he is still the determined athlete or if he just fell apart.

DeleteI do not think his relationship with Jasper matters because the book ends when he graduates from high school. Jasper would not be in Louie's life because he wanted to leave the town anyways.
DeleteI read the book Chinese handcuffs and i think it would also be interesting to know if the character Jenifer went anywhere with her basketball carrier. She was an amazing basketball player but maybe after her step dad left, her career fell apart because she used the sport to zone out what her step dad did to her.

DeleteI read the book Running Loose if i wrote another chapter i would try up as many loose ends as possible. One of them is what happened to the memorials that the school put down and louie kept destroying. Another thing that i would like to know is how boomer ended up because he always hated louie but towards the end of the book it changed. The last thing that i would like to know is how louie did in life because it ends with him just going out to destroy the memorial for becky again.

DeleteI wanted to know what happened to Boomer after the funeral, because after the funeral Boomer was never talked about, like Boomer was his relationship with Becky. I think it could of said if Boomer was still treating Louie like trash or something

DeleteI read the book Running Loose. If I could write another chapter, I would have two things happen. First I would go into depth of Louie's track season. I would talk about state track. Then I would try to twist the end and make Boomer and Louie become friends. I think that would be a good way to end the book. It leaves everything tied in a positive note.
ReplyDeleteI kinda think that Chris has done that already. After all Boomer does sit by Louie during Track season and talks to him. I would be surprised if Boomer ended up friends with Washington. Do you agree?
DeleteI think that having Boomer and louie be friends at the end of the book would be a good idea to because at the beggining of the book they hated each other and that having the book end like that would be a good way to end it.

DeleteI read the book running loose and I had a fair amount of questions answered. But one question that never was answered was if Louie got into a new relationship with another girl. Also how did Louie recover from the incident at the track meet. If I had to add another chapter to the book I would start at the hospital. Louie would be in the bed surrounded by family and friends. Then Sally Larson would come into the room and hug Louie. Then Louie would soon get to talking to her and then hang out and then finally be together. Sally would be like Becky but in another body and Louie would move on in his career. Just as if he was still with Becky. They would have a little girl and soon name her Becky. Do you think that Louie gets a date or not?

DeleteI read the book Running Loose and there was not many loose ends to the book. Louis runs track and goes to state, but then loses. The only loose end there is, is what Louie did after school. If I wrote one more chapter I would talk about what happened to Louie after graduation. Did he meet someone new? Did he go to college?
ReplyDeleteI agree I was wondering the same thing. Did Louie end up dating Sally Larson. Did he get a scholarship. However for the most part Chris left us with one thing. Life is never perfect and no mater how lucky you are you will always have someone that hates you for you.

DeleteThat is what I want to know is why wouldn't he talk about her step dad and what all happened to him. Did Dillon not care anymore of what happened that's why he left Jennifer. Or was i because Jennifer was mad at him for some odd reason. It just doesn't come together very well.

DeleteI read the book Stotan and the end of the book had really loose ends. If I could change the end of the book I would tell whether or not Jeff, the sick character lived or not. Honestly i would have probably had Jeff die while the boys were at their last meet because the boys broke the rules to swim for him as a sign of respect. Even though it would have been sad it would also be beautiful in a way because the boys would have won the meet if jeff was there, it would pull at your heart strings in the end.

DeleteIf i could change the ending of chinese handcuffs, i would make it answer all of the unanswered questions that people may have by the end of the book. some good questions would be, what happened to jens stepdad and why did everything fall apart for everyone at the end. i would make everything throughout the book make more sense so its not so confusing.

DeleteIn the book Stotan he leaves you hanging with not knowing what happens to Jeff and if they won the state swimming championship. If I wrote the book i would make the book a little longer and explain what happened to Jeff and say if he lived or if he passed. Then i would say if they won the swimming championship or if they placed in the top 3. All i'm saying is that i would make the book a little longer to say what happened at the end.

DeleteI read Stotan! and I think another chapter would have strengthened the ending of the book greatly. Everything was kind of rushed towards the end which was completely opposite to the slow rising action throughout. If I was able to write another chapter, I would clear up some of the confusion. I would explain if Jeff recovered or passed away. If I chose pass away, I would end the book at the funeral. The friends would say one last goodbye to their friend who they shared so many memories with. They would also say goodbye to high school and their "Stotan" days. It would be a much clearer ending than the abrupt stop.
ReplyDeleteI read Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes and i dont think it was abrupt at all. I think the only reason i believe that is because the epilogue wrapped it all up pretty well. Its all a pretty happy ending i think because they all go through all these really sh*tty things and at the end it all works out for them. The little newspaper segment explaining how sarah is adopted really summed up her story.

DeleteI read the book Stotan I also felt that there were a lot of loose ends. The worse loose end for me was whether Jeff was going to live or die. Jeff's condition was left on a cliffhanger and I got the impression that the author didn't want to write the rest so he left Walker accepting it as an "ending." The ending just felt rushed and incomplete to me.

Like why does he leave the ending with Dillon saying "now i am going to take my hands of the these Chinese Handcuffs" I feel as if he would add another chapter saying what was with Jen's stepdad. Would it say that Dillon finally accomplished his purpose to help another person out? i feel as if he would also add what happened after Jennifer told authorities about her step dad. People want to know what happened to him as it was the biggest problem they faced throughout the book.

ReplyDeleteI Read Stotan he leaves you hanging about about whether Jeff dies and what happens with walker and Devnee. I think the next chapter should be about whats going to happen to Jeff if he was going to live or pass away and if he did have a funrel for him. I would also explain weather or not Walker and his girlfriend Devnee break up or stay together threw it all. This book would be better if he tied up the loose ends so we didn't wonder what was going to happen.

Deletethe book staying fat for sarah byrnes leaves on the main characters moms boyfriend getting in trouble because he assaulted the man villain of the story but we never see what happened in court and what is going to happen to carver or his family if i was the author i would probably give a whole chapter the court trail and have it where carver doesn't get in trouble and everything goes back to normal.

I wood have wrote the louis yelled back at jasper and said iam done with track. and yes I wrecked becky memorial because it looked cheesy. then the nexted day I wood have jasper call in louis again in the office and jasper wood try to get louis back on the track team. louis wood be like really you called me in for this. louis wood be like I just want to do my school work and get out of here. I wonder what louis did after high school.
ReplyDeleteI read the book Running Loose, if I could write another chapter in the book i would write about the rest of Louie's senior year. I would write about how he keeps to himself and barely talks with friends and the graduation ceremony. I would write that Louie has a really tough time at the graduation ceremony and the rest of the summer after school is done.

ReplyDeleteI read the book Stotan and I enjoyed the ending. I just wish that the author had not left it a mystery whether Jeff lived or died. I would have wrote a confirmed ending to that, especially if Jeff had died I would have talked about his funeral. I also would have talked about Walker and Devnee's relationship. I personally don't believe that Walker has the haunches to tell Devnee the truth and that he will suffer in silence forever.

DeleteI honestly like the ending in Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes. I like how there's kinda a happy ending with Sarah. She gets adopted by ms Lemry and Virgil gets in jail. I love how Eric's mothers boyfriend beats Virgil up and goes to jail which i think is the only downfall of the ending. But it ends up being okay because he gets parole and not as much jail time. I also think the only reason it was more summed up was because the epilogue basically served as the final chapter and i think that was what made the ending much better. I think it ended well and i like the way it ended like it did.
ReplyDeletei read the wonderfully book stotan but there are a few key loos ends. one is the outcome on jeff condition it never clarifies if he lives or dies this slightly angers me and what walker means by "gotta set her straight" when talking about Devnee . if there was one more chapter i would clear this up and not leave the reader with a question that cant be solved.

DeleteI read Running Loose and if i could add another chapter I would and make it about how Louie gets through the loss of Becky. Louie was definitely having a hard time and I think a chapter about him moving past it and putting time into running would be a good ending.

DeleteI read the book Staying fat for Sarah and i would add another chapter but i would have ended the book differently like i would have made it sound like Sarah mom wasn't coming back but at the end of the chapter I would have made the mom come back surprisingly and had her be there for Sarah. i would of never left it with a cliff hanger I would have made it will kinda a happy ending.

DeleteI read Running Loose and I would have loved if the author Chris slowed the pacing of the book entirely. i wasn't a fan of when he would just jump three months at a time and you'd be left confused. like when he jumps from the beginning of football practice a whole month to the first game and only gives us like 2 plays from the game like what? your telling me that you only remember two plays from the whole game? i can usually remember all the plays after the game! and then from the end of him trying to get on the team again its suddenly basketball season! you skipped so much and i felt like that was sloppy writing.
ReplyDeleteI read the book Chinese Handcuffs. In this book there are a lot of loose ends that are not tied up. There is an epilogue, but it does not really say what happens to the characters after the story. It pretty much just says that T B gets arrested in Florida and ends the book with that. If I could rewrite the last chapter, I would write more about what happens with Dillon and Jenifer's relationship. They split up in the end of the book, but it never really says if they ever get back together or find anyone else. I would also write more about what happens in the near future of Dillon and Jenifer's lives because it does not really say anything about it.

DeleteI read Chinese Handcuffs and i have a couple of things that i would add into another chapter. Twords the end of the book Jennifer Finally reports T.B. to the authorities and they catch him somewhere down in Florida and arrest him. What i am wondering if the police will do anything about. If he will be hit with charges from what he did to Jennifer and if he will be convicted. Another thing is the author leaves Jennifer and Dillon's relationship at a cliff hanger, what happens between the two of them. Do they get together or just drift apart? I would add a clear understanding to what happens to Jennifer and Dillon if i could write another chapter.

DeleteWhile reading the book Stotan!, at first it was very slow and difficult to get hooked and interested in it. As the story went on, it began to build up more and more suspense. We learn all the characters and start to get closer to them. This creates a more interesting read and begins get us hooked on the plot and characters. This makes it difficult to find out that Jeff has a serious blood disease. As the story went on, we see just how sick he gets, and we are almost positive that he is going to die at the end, but once the end came, we never found out what happened to him for sure. If I were to add another chapter, I would include a funeral for Jeff, how it went with Devnee when walker told her how he feels, and information on what they all decided to do with their lives. The ending just left you hanging, made you feel like there was more, and made you want more.

DeleteI actually got hooked in around chapter 3-4 I felt like the plot started getting more interesting with Nortie. I also did wish the ending was different I felt like it at least needed 1 more chapter to clear things up about the characters instead of leaving us guessing the ending. Especially with jeff I felt like the group needed to say one last goodbye to their friend Jeff.

ReplyDeleteI read Stotan and I think one more chapter would make the book so much better. Everything at the end was so rushed, where in the beginning everything was super slow. If I was able to write another chapter, I would make things a lot more clear. I would explain if Jeff ended up passing away or if he recovered. If I chose that he passed away, I would end the book with a funeral but that would just make it a very sad ending and i dont know if i would like that but it would be a much clearer ending than the way it actually ended.
ReplyDeleteif i were to end running loose Louie would have made it big. in the final chapter i would write how coach ledneacky and the principle jasper got what they had coming. i mean for all of there cheating and unsportsmanlike conduct. i would like to see them go to jail. and for Louie i would like to see him make it D1 to any college he chose cause of his hard work and his dedication to doing things right, and cause hes a great athlete. Louie would find love in this last chapter since Becky died and he wasn't able to marry her. i expect he finds a girl just like her and keeps him happy. all in all i would give Louie a happy life.

DeleteIn the book "Stotan!" Chris Crutcher left us hanging wondering if Jeff is going to die or not, is the group going their separate ways, and what happen with Walker's relationship with Devnee. If I was the author I would at least written more, to give the readers more clarification on what happen or what's going to happen for the group if they did go their own separate ways. For example with Jeff I would of written how he did ended up living a little bit more than he expected and then have the group say their last goodbye's to their dying friend. As the reader I feel like it needed that closure where the whole group said their final goodbye's so that it wouldn't be so confusing at the end and at least it will clear up some things.
ReplyDeleteIf i could write one more chapter i would talk about Louie destroying the plaque again and then i would also maybe talk about Washington and maybe him and Louie become friends and also i think i would maybe find Louie another girlfriend so that way he is happy again. but most of all i would talk about jasper getting pissed again because Louie broke the plaque again and then i would make Washington and Louie better friends so that way the book doesn't end with Louie completely lonely but i think Chris ended the book pretty good in my opinion with leaving readers with something to think about.
ReplyDeleteIf i could write my own chapter to finish the book even more i would make it a clear and happy ending. when louie is on his way to get the sledge hammer he has moment and realizes that destruction and violence is not the answer and he finds peace with the world and purses his dreams and starts his life in better way.
ReplyDeleteI read the book Staying fat for Sarah Byrnes and I feel like it was left with a lot of loose ending. If I could write one more chapter I would. I would write it about more of her past with her dad. I would also in the end of the chapter have her mom come, want something to do with her, apologize to her for what she did in the past and not wanting to help when she went to find her.
