My First pick for a book was Running Loose and my second choice is the book that i have now which is Chinese Handcuffs. These books were fairly similar as they all somewhat relate to our lives as kids. I didn't really like any of these books as i put them on my list of book choices but i am glad that i have the book i have now. The book started off slow and now that i have gotten more further into the book it started to get more interesting. I like the book since it really relates to a team going to the final game and playing as we just played at state. I didn't find the book much too enjoyable as i started but into chapter 2 the book is getting more interesting and i hope that it keeps getting better. Jacob Demmer Chinese handcuffs

DeleteI feel as if the book will have a turning point towards the end as usually most books do. I don't know if it will now but as i read on I will find out. The book started to make sense as i read on but it was hard from the start trying to understand all the characters and all their connections in the book.

DeleteThe reason why i chose Running Loose was because it seemed like a good book and was about sports. I am very happy with my choice it is an very interesting book about a teen going through high-school. My initial thoughts of this book was it wasn't gonna be very good but i was wrong so far. This reading is very interesting and i can make connections because of my back ground in playing in high-school football.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing when I chose my book it was very boring at first and now it started to get interesting as I further read on. My book is also about a teen going through high school and the adversities that they face.

DeleteI agree this book is good because I think Louie's life is interesting and his life isn't perfect so it makes it more relatable. I also think it is an easy read and I can actually understand it.

DeleteI am reading Chinese Handcuffs and i so far am pretty happy about this book. This book was in my top choices because it seemed interesting and something i would able to comprehend. This book always leaves you on a cliff hanger and makes you want to keep reading and its hard to just close the book. I have only made one connection with writing stuff down to keep my thoughts in one place and help me cope with whatever i am feeling at that time.

DeleteMy book i am reading is chinese handcuffs and i dont care for the book. i hate reading in general but at first the book was really slow and about after chapter 2 it started to speed up and now everything is starting to make more sense. it is alot more interesting now and it brings me into the book more and makes me want to read it Hunter Block Chinese Handcuffs

DeleteI am also reading Chinese Handcuffs and I didn't care for it at the beginning, but the book got a lot better as you read on. You start to connect more into the book as you read further. I also don't like reading as well but after reading Chinese Handcuffs it makes me want to keep reading.

ReplyDeleteI am also reading Running Loose and I can relate with some of the charterers. The only thing is I made some connections with the characters playing football because i also played high school football.
DeleteI can relate to the conditioning. The first week of practice is the worst. Time to run to get fit for the season. I remember running hills over at the middle school during football practice and running ten 200 laps during track practice. They were the worst.

The book so far is really good, i'm getting to know all the characters and how they make a impact in the book. The book is a good and it is inserting from all the swim lessons that they have to go through Stotan week that they will have to push through to make them selves better for swimming. I am happy with my choice so far because it is easy to understand and goes at a slow pace that is easy to understand. although I don't understand football and the book talks a lot about football i still have some interest in it.

DeleteThe reason i chose running loose because i heard it is a every good book. Also i heard it is about football and i like football. So far the book running loose is going pretty fast and i like that in a book so its easier to read. I'm happy with the book running loose because something is going to happen an change the whole book. The book turns out to be a lot better then i thought

Deletei chose Chinese handcuffs because it sounded interesting from reading some pages. this book was my top choice, this book when i started reading was confusing and it still is confusing but it is starting to make some more sense between the first and second chapter they where talking about different things but now they are coming together and is now making more sense.

There are interesting topics that come up in this book and keeps me interested to keep reading.

The character is a swimmer and he makes fun of himself the whole time so it makes the story very humorous. The book has not very started yet.
ReplyDeleteThe characters in my book also swim but they all do it as a friend group and they all get alone really good and they do it for a sport and do it competition.The book is mostly about that so far but im not to far into it.

DeleteI am also reading staying fat for Sarah Byrnes and the book so far is really interesting. I love how Eric is trying with Sarah and trying to bring back up past memories. When Eric visits her at the hospital he brings back middle school memories and tries to be there for her no matter how hard it is to see her, and yes how Eric and Sarah explains themselves is pretty funny.

I also am still trying to learn who everyone is and figure out all the character names apart from each other. It is confusing sometimes but it has been a breeze to read.

The people can be confusing to me as well because I feel like there are so many new names added every time. Hopefully I will be able to get the hang of it.

DeleteI didn't really care what book I got but, I got staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. I had this book on my top three list because it sounded weird and i wanted to find out why they chose that title for the book. I am happy with the book choice so far because it is interesting and makes you want to keep reading. My thought on the book so far is it was kind of confusing in some spots but as you keep reading it makes more sense. Yea its kind of enjoyable for having to read it because it keeps you wanting to know more. No i'm not making any connections in the book right now.

DeleteI chose the book, "Stotan" because it seemed like a very inspirational book. I also thought that since it is based on their senior year, it made it relatable to myself. So far, I am happy with my choice. It is easy to understand and follow along. This book creates an interesting suspense and makes you want to read more, as you're curious in what is going to happen next. I personally thought that this would probably be a little more difficult since it is about swimming, but luckily there is not too much that is required to know to understand. I am happy with my pick so far.

DeleteI am reading the book Stotan and i would agree that it is relatable because of their senior year. It is an easy book to understand there isn't to much swimming talk which i'm glad about because sometimes it does get a little confusing. The book does make you want to read more i was surprise to learn how Nortie's dad abuses him and his mom, and that he had an older brother who committed suicide at 13 years old because of the way their dad treated them, but yet Nortie still hasn't done anything to stop his dad from abusing them.

I am glad I picked this book to read. reading the first couple chapter I can relate to louis on being a hard worked. I like how the chapters are shorter. ReplyDeleteI chose the book "Stotan!". I put this novel in my top three choices because it sounded like an interesting choice in Gwen Glazer's review. She wrote that the book had her in tears when she read it on a flight, so I knew it would be a good book. The plot sounded a little dreary at first being about swimmers, but I decided to give it a chance. I felt it was relatable through the characters age, daily problems, and high school drama. Overall I thought the novel sounded interesting and worth a shot. So far the book has surprised me with it's intriguing plot. It hasn't been only about swimming so that is nice.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your outlook on Stotan, it has interesting interactions between characters that draw me in to see how these interactions will turn out. i am interested to see how Walker and Elaine's relationship will turn out. I also find the relatable real world situations in this book intriguing with Lion's reaction to the racist newspaper spread around the school. I would have probably burned it like he did.
DeleteStotan wasn't my first choice because at first I did thought it was all going to be about swimming but it wasn't. I do agree with you that the book can be relatable in so many ways. The plot does become more interesting the more you keep reading and each of the characters are also interesting in their own way.
DeleteI was a little worried about this book as well. I thought that it was going to be about swimming, which I know nothing about. Luckily that is not all what it talks about. I also think that it becomes more relatable more and more as it goes on.

DeleteI'm reading Running Loose and I'm about 99 pages in so far, I like the book. I really like how it is relate-able because how Louie is in high school. The only connection I have is that I played sports in high school as well. I think Chris Crutcher does a good job of writing like a highschooler.

DeleteI am reading Staying fat for Sarah Byrnes and its not a bad book but, its not my all time favorite but i am hoping the book gets more interesting as it keeps moving on. As the book talks about the problems Sarah has with her self and being over weight and having her friend be over weight with her so Sarah doesn't feel all the pressers as much because she has a friend and concealer by her side. The book does always have something new going on witch i do like but i don't really have many connections with the book.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though the book goes really slow in the beginning but you just gotta get through the first few chapters to get to the good stuff. Once you get over the hurdle of figuring out when hes referring to the past and when its present, its a lot faster of a read. There are a lot of connections like strong friendships. Eric is trying hard to bring up past memories in the hope that Sarah will respond to him no matter how hard it is to see his best friend that way.

I do not like to read but this book seemed to be the best option of the ones we were given. I like reading sports books because i like to watch sports and this book is about swimming so i thought i would enjoy it

Deletei chose the book chinese handcuffs because it looked the most interesting. i also chose it because i read a few pages of the book and it sounded like it was going to be a good book. it was confusing the first 2 chapters but as it started to speed up it started to make a lot more sense making me want to keep reading it

Deletei am reading running loose for my book in class. i heard it was a good and easy book for class. i like this book because its kids our age and i can relate to them. there are having some of the same problems that we have in our high school. its a small school that they are at they only play 8 man football because of the size of the school.
ReplyDeleteThe reason that i choose running loose was because it seemed like a good book and i like sports books which the book is about. I also like the book because i can relate to some of the kid in the book and some of the stuff that is going on in there school is going on in ours. The book is pretty easy to understand and to read so it should not be that difficult to continue reading the book. However at first it was kind of slow and then it started to pick up after the first chapter.
ReplyDeletei see how you can think that the story is slow in the beginning yet i have to disagree because of how it tosses you into the first few pages. it kinda overwhelms you with names which i still don't know who's talking even when they give me the names because i cant tell who is who. but i still enjoy the book with its work hard type story that, if you work hard enough you'll get places.
DeleteI can agree with that, the names can be a little challenging to follow along with but the book is not to difficult that you just wanna do nothing but stop reading it, this book has a great message and is really interesting. The narration might be hard to follow at times but they do a pretty good job of keeping the reader entertained.

DeleteThe book that i had as my number one choice was Chinese Handcuffs, sadly though i got running loose. so i thought the the book i got wouldn't be my taste perfectly yet the book was still my number two choice. reading the book i find a lot of the things relatable being a football player with all our inside jokes and all the references. i can also relate to being in shape and out of shape at the start of the season and with all the workouts they go through. I'm glad i got this book because of how well i can relate to the book.

DeleteI am reading Running Loose, this was my second choice my first choice was Chinese handcuffs. I put these on my list because they both sounded really interesting. I am glad that i got running loose because it is about football so far and i like watching and reading about football. The book started off pretty interesting talking about school, football practices, his dads business and how he works there and how he has been practicing all summer so when football came he had a jump on everyone.
ReplyDeleteI also cant wait for the drama part of the book like if boomer and Louis will get along. also if him and Becky will get together as it eludes too. the book has set so any things up in which it can really go anyway it wants to in the terms of story arc.
DeleteI think the beginning of the book is very interesting from the football scenes to the bar. Then when they won the ball game and he got to go on a date. It really shows that a guy like boomer that can be a mean guy wont get what he wants

So far i have only made it half way through chapter two and its been confusing but now its getting easier to read and understand. So far there's a girl and two guys introduced. In chapter two, it focuses more on the Jennifer and how shes determined to do good in basketball.

DeleteRunning Loose was my top pick because of the sports that the character plays. I am loving the book because I can relate to the main character Louie. He is a average kid that is your typical high school kid. Living in a small town like Epworth Iowa. Were you work hard to be a starter. I connected to the beginning of football practice in 7th and 8th grade. The first week we always ran. Just like Louie had to run the mile and do sprints. Running until we would throw up. I love the story line because it makes you imagine. That is the best part being able to use your creativity. Can't wait to find out the obstacles that Louie runs into. Can you?

I enjoy reading about the struggles of kids our age and overcoming them, like when he wanted to bear boomer with everything he had and he worked and worked to win but yet still lost, but that also boosted him to be better in footbal. Chris Crutcher does a very good job about describing the different events that happen in the book.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Boomer because he plays dirty. I believe that Louie lost to Boomer because Boomer triped him. Boomer is realy Cocky and Rude. I am surprised that Louie hasn't thrown a punch at him yet.
DeleteI am reading Staying fat for Sarah Byrnes, i put this novel in my top three choices because i thought the title sounded interesting and the summary caught my attention. The start of the book in chapter one and in chapter two was kind of boring but contained important details as i kept reading it started to make sense and become more interesting. The characters in the book all show important qualities and also show that life is hard and has many obstacles. One important obstacle that Sarah has had to face is being fat and having serve burns on her face from a boiling pot of spaghetti falling on to her when she was three, she is now "one of the ugliest human beings outside the circus."
ReplyDeleteOne reason the book is so good is because it has rude comments like the one you have there. Its exactly how teenagers would reply if someone had that kind of deformity. Another thing thats great about this book is Sarah knows shes ugly but she is a bad b*tch. She will fight back no matter how hard you come at her.
DeleteI am reading Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes and it was actually my second choice. As you get farther into the book it gets faster and you get more developed characters. Within the first few chapters its hard to connect with the characters because in my opinion they are not very well developed. You get thrown right into the story of Sarah and Eric's friendship but are still lost as to why Sarah is in the hospital. In each chapter Eric visits Sarah in the hospital and always reverts back to past memories with her to remember. This helps the reader truly learn how close the two were. Overall i like the book.

I love the drama and the FIGHT Dale and Sarah at that time it got real and gave no F****. I cant wait to get more into the book and learn more about Sarah Byrnes the queen her self!
DeleteI am reading Stotan as my choice book. My first pick was Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. I was originally thinking this book would be boring, but the relationships of the characters are very well developed. The relationship between Walker and Elaine is very interesting in the fact that he has emotional feelings for her, but he is to scared to tell her about them. I am also intrigued by the fact that the other is not afraid to dive into touchy territory such as how Nortie has an internal crisis about how he will turn into an abusive person like his father before him. *Spoiler ahead for about page fifty* This conversation between Nortie and Walker helps to greatly build on Nortie's character by revealing how he had a brother that hung himself so he would not have had to deal with Nortie's father. Those are some reason's I really like this book.

She told me what is was about and i sounded interesting and just the type of books i like to read. Im only a couple chapters into the book and its hard to understand what is going on. for example in the book the author goes back and forth from the present to the past and its sometimes hard to follow. also its hard to try and follow what has happened to the main character Sarah Byrnes. one of the main events that happened to her was that she spilt boiling water on her face ad hands.

DeleteThe book I am reading is Running Loose, by Chris Crutcher. This was my first choice because it sounded the most interesting. I like books that have a bit of action and as a football story I thought it would have a little action. The other stories did not strike me as an exiting book, like Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes. So far I am happy with my choice. This book is more than just a football book, it is about standing behind for what is right even if everyone is against you. At first I thought the book was kind-of confusing but after the first chapter it got way easier to read. So far I have not made any connection to the book except for the main character being a senior in high school.

ReplyDeleteat this point in the book yes i love my pick there is a lot of info that has been given and the plot seems to be thickening up with conflict starting like what walker is going to do about his current relationship with Devnee. is he going to end it to try to be with his new crush on Old Elaine.
I am finding my self reading more then is required finding the time to read more of this wonderful book.

I agree, I also find Walk and Elaine's relationship very interesting. I am wondering if he will tell her how he feels or suffer in silence to guarantee that their friendship stays intact. In my opinion Walker will not tell Elaine how he feels. I think he is to scared to do it.
DeleteThe book that i am reading is Stotan, it wasn't my first choice but either way it's not that bad. My first thought about it was that is was mostly going to be about swimming and all that boring sporty stuff, but it wasn't. Around chapter 2 or 3 I started enjoying it because it started explaining the life about the group of friends, and how all of them had some type of struggle outside of school. The more i keep learning about the characters I am finding out that I've been making more connections to it like school, friends, and etc.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the connections, with the characters being seniors in high school it i easy to relate to us. I also thought that the book was going to be difficult to read because of it having swimming in it an i don't know anything about it, but it has turned out to be halfway decent.
DeleteI'm reading Chinese Handcuffs, i chose it because it sounded interesting. I'm currently on chapter 4 and its really confusing because it starts at weird spots like in the middle of a triathlon. t also switches in between characters has a bunch of flashbacks. the story itself is kind of interesting though, if it was easier to follow i would probably like it more.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well. The stories are fairly interesting to read, but the jumping round between them gets you lost and makes it confusing to read.
DeleteI agree that if they focused on talking about one topic at a time instead of jumping around back and forth the book would be much easier to follow and more enjoyable to read.

I choose this book because it seemed more interesting then reading then reading about freinds with there own disabilities or about thinkinig your the reason your brother died. This book is kinda interseting not as much as i thought it would, it jumps around but not to bad and is just explaining the charechters so far. If the book was a bit faster id enjoy it more.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Chinese Handcuffs and I chose this book because it talked about a death in the summary and i can relate to that because i have lost people i was close with. the book is a little bit confusing in the beginning because it jumps around from a triathalon to a letter and then back to what's happening in the book. its kinda boring in the beginning of the book and im hoping it gets more interesting later in the book.

DeleteStotan was my third choice because I did not want to read Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. The book is ok at the moment its not really drawing me in but it's not boring me too much. Right now the books slightly mysterious because the boys on the swim team signed up for Stotan week although none of them know what it is yet. Other than that the book is just introducing the characters and telling us their back stories.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Chinese Handcuffs. I choose the book as one of my first choices because it sounded like and interesting book. As I got the book and started reading it makes no sense to me. I got through chapter one and started chapter two, but I only understand bits and pieces of what is going on. I am told that things start to fall into place half way through chapter two so hopfully that will make the book more enjoyable to read.

DeleteI chose Chinese Hand Cuffs because It sounded interesting and I was curious to why it was called Chinese hand cuffs. This book to me Is very confusing in the beginning I don't even know what is going on. It goes from a triathlon to him writing a letter to his brother, then they flashback to killing a cat. If this book was easier to follow i think that i would enjoy it a lot more.

DeleteI chose to read "Running Loose" which was my first option. I chose this as my first option, then "Stotan!" and finally "Chinese Handcuffs". I wanted this book as my first option because i could relate to it the most. With it being set in a small town and having to do with football, I knew I was going to be able to understand it the easiest. I am happy with my decision so far. This book is able to keep me interested unlike any other book. I am able to connect with Louie some what. Louie is a kid who is right in the middle of the popularity spectrum. I fall somewhere around the lower middle. So I can relate to him there. But, overall I am very happy with the book I chose to read.
ReplyDeletei chose running loose because i liked the idea of conflict in high school sports because there is a lot in now a days. it shows people who make the right choice and the wrong decisions. also when we heard the summary of the book for the first word i was interested cause i have dealt with conflict in sports as well and i can relate but i also wanted to know how they handled the situation in the book. and so far i am very interested to keep going and i am interested to see how mush trouble the coach gets in and how Louie prevales
ReplyDeleteThe main charter in my book stotan is nortie I picture him as a taller kid that is very smart and strong that can stand up for himself most of the time other then his dad he dont say much to his dad and he is always beating him and his mom also his mom dont stand up for them i feel bad for then because his dad is a truck driver too and they dont get to see him and when they do he beats them.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book staying fat for Sarah byrnes, and Sarah is going through the same issue in a way. She is keeping her self in a local mental hospital just to stay away from the abuse of her father and stay free from his clutches.Her mom is also not a great big help because her mom ran away.
DeleteThe character Eric from Staying fat for Sarah Byrens is a good friend for Sarah. He is over weight for Sarah to make her feel better about herself and not have others in school talk about her. Sarah has problems with being over weight and her friend Eric is over weight but swims and its like he looses most of his weight. Sarah has to have her personal counselor that helps her with all her problems. I think i would be friends with Eric because he sounds like he would be a good friend and he sounds caring.
ReplyDeleteI do agree Eric is a good friend to Sarah but to an extent i feel as when you get ahead in chapters he finally takes control of himself. I feel like Eric needs someone to constantly talk to without changing his appearance so he can relate to Sarah. Mr. Lemry is a good friend to talk to and Eric can always talk and rant to him.
DeleteI am reading the book staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. The character i want to talk about is Sarah Byrnes she is a young women in her teens who has scars on her face from when she is three years old. Sarah Byrnes is placed in the psych ward at the local hospital which hopes she will eventually come out of her "psycho" state. Sarah's father knows she is faking it but has no way to prove it. Sarah Byrnes finally spills the truth about why she is faking. She said it was to escape her fathers clutches long enough to figure out a way to "survive." Many people try to help Sarah help her be more human in a way. She had enemy's and friends all she needed to do was find a way to be happy.
ReplyDeleteI read the book stotan! This book was in my top 3 picks. I have many reasons for choosing this book. I like sports so that is one. another is I was recommended this book from a friend. So far I am happy with the way this book is turning out. For the firstpart of the book I was kind of concerned that the book would be boring because it started slow. But since I got past 3rd chapter I got to really like the book.
ReplyDeleteMy First pick for a book was stotan and my second choice was running loose and my third is the book that i have now which is Chinese Handcuffs. These books were fairly similar as they all somewhat relate to our lives as kids. I didn't really like any of these books. The book started off slow and super confusing. now that i am farther in the book its getting easier to understand. I didn't find the book very good at the start but in chapter 2 the book is getting easier to understand and is getting more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why i chose the book Stotan was because it was really the only one that stuck out to me when you were telling us about the four books. So far i really enjoy the book because i like reading about athletics but im just a little confused about what Stotan is. I connected to the 4 boys, Walker, Jeff, Nortie, and Lion when they were all looking at the poster in confusion that said "Stotan Week" because i was also very confused. Im very happy with the book i chose and am very excited to continue reading this book.
